Our Jurisdiction

Lake Basin Development Authority is under the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, State Department of Planning & Statistics. LBDA was established in 1979 by an Act of Parliament, Cap 442 to spearhead development in the Kenyan portion of Lake Victoria basin. The Act empowers the Authority to undertake overall integrated planning, co-ordination and implementation of programs in the basin through mobilization of resources and assets in pursuit of improving livelihoods and development in the region. The basin and its catchments cover an area of 39,000 Km² exclusive of Lake Victoria’s area of 4,000 km2. The LBDA is comprised of 17 Counties (in Nyanza, Western Province and parts of the Rift Valley).
